Photo Session Prep for an Introvert

Being in front of a camera can be a little nerve wrecking in general, but for Introverts (like myself) it can seem like a far away thought. All we really want are some snackies, a blankie and to be home doing what we do best, being inside. Sounds like the dream!

However, a professional photo shoot doesn’t have to make your skin crawl. These tips will have you feeling prepared and hopefully excited to book your session.

1. Timing is everything!

When scouting for locations, I keep in mind that different times of the day may look different. If the location you want to chose can get too peopley, ask your photographer about shooting at a less busy time like in the morning. Everyone isn’t a morning person, and I totally understand! Usually folks wake up and get going on a weekend around 11ish when, so midmorning can be perfect.

2. Even Scooby needed a snack to brave

That’s right! You need a lil treat! Eating something as simple as a piece of toast or a granola bar can ease anxious tummies. It’s not like you need to go out to the sizzler and have a 4 course meal, but something small enough to make the experience enjoyable. We don’t need anxious hangry clients!

3. Home = Comfy

There is no rule saying that you can’t take professional photos in your home. Some photographers may be uneasy about it, but honestly my entire goal is to have my clients feel as comfortable as possible. If this is your happy place, I’m just honored to be allowed in. Something you may want to ask your photographer are tips on styling/staging your home for a session.

4. Who’s taking your photos?

Getting to know your photographer is a crucial step in feeling comfy in front of a camera. If you book with them, then don’t hear back until shoot day, might feel like you’re a transaction. It could feel awkward to tell a photographer if the pose doesn’t align with your identity or how you present. Genuinely talking with clients about their story/life is one of the joys of being a photographer and highly encouraged.

5. Style can also mean comfortable

The clothes we wear can make or break our mood. Being able to focus on being your best self with an itchy tag or a tight pair of pants is impossible. Every body is a beautiful body and you should be able to feel amazing in the clothes you choose for your session. If you need help choosing what to wear, ask your photographer! (My clients get an outfit guide!)
